Product Description

This EF Johnson Invader 2000, 1KW Transmitter & Power Supply, is all Original and Complete and is S/N 5116.

It is the Factory Made 2000 and not an upgraded Invader.

This Transmitter and matching power supply, was stored in a warehouse for several decades. Everything looks original and it appears no mods have been done so it is a great start for a complete restoration.

The paint Johnson used on the anodized face plate and cabinet is notorious for coming off and it is easy to see why. They did not use primer or etching compound, so this set will need to be repainted.

The power supply is also complete and original. It even has the original electrolytic capacitors which of course will have to be changed.

I had the power plate transformer tested with an insulation tested and it tests okay. This Plate transformer is the same one Johnson used in the Johnson Viking 500 Power supply.

I have not tested anything else and have not powered it up which would not be wise with the old capacitors and bad AC cord.

I do not have the interface cable set. It used common octal connectors which are easy to find.

All the RF covers and cabinets, are intact as are the Power Amplifier Tubes, RF Deck tubes and power supply tubes, cooling fan and everything else.

There are many articles outlining restoration and mods for this rare transmitter and if you want to restore this one, you have a great starting point with an original unmodified Transmitter and Power supply.

I prefer a pick up for this item but will ship it at the risk of the buyer. I am one of the best in the business packing heavy vintage gear but there is the risk of damage as the power supply is very heavy.

The shipping cost listed is just a rough estimate and I will only charge the actual amount it cost to ship.

I do not have a manual but they are available on line.

This Transmitter and Power supply are being sold as is as described for Restoration or parts.

This transmitter runs 1kw on CW, 800 watts AM and 2kw pep SSB and constitutes my high power BA station. There is actually a second portion to the transmitter, the power supply unit, which is the same size as the transmitter but remotely connected and weighing 130lbs by itself! The Invader 2000 RF deck weighs around 65 pounds. It can be operated as an exciter using the two 6146's running around 90 watts, or the hipower portion can be switched in consisting of two 4-400A's. The Invader came in two flavors, the Invader 200 and the Invader 2000. The Invader 200 was just the exciter portion with the two 6146's. The power supply for the Invader 200 was built into the same RF cabinet so it was just the single unit. The Invader 2000 moved the exciter power supply into the seperate external high voltage supply and the RF deck (two 4-400A's) were installed in the space vacated by the low power supply.
